Washingtons attorneys united to create the Campaign for Equal Justice, an annual giving drive benefiting all of our states civil legal aid programs.
Campaign Co-Chairs Gary Locke and Slade Gorton are assisted by 100 volunteers who raise funds to support over thirty legal aid programs throughout Washington. The Campaign runs on a calendar year cycle, ending on December 31st of each year.
A Message from 2007- 2008 Campaign Co-Chairs Gary Locke and Slade Gorton
Throughout our careers we have worked hard to ensure that the democratic principle of “justice for all,” is not an empty promise. We are honored to succeed John McKay and Bill Gates, Sr. to co-chair the third annual statewide Campaign for Equal Justice giving drive to provide much-needed charitable support for civil legal aid in our state.
The justice system must be accessible to all of us--not just to those who can afford a lawyer. Justice for every person is critical to the integrity of our communities. Free civil legal aid services defend and secure basic human needs that prevent hunger, unemployment, homelessness and domestic abuse, preempting a downward spiral of costly social problems. Individuals benefit. Families benefit. Our communities benefit.
Unfortunately, due to limited resources, currently only one in five low-income Washingtonians gets assistance for their urgent civil legal problems. It is critical to the health of the justice system that we do our utmost to uphold the promise of justice for all.
Together, we can make a difference. Gifts to the Campaign for Equal Justice help fund more than thirty legal aid programs throughout the state. Your tax-deductible donation can help individuals and families in crisis return to safe and productive lives. Please join us in supporting the Campaign for Equal Justice, because it’s not justice if it’s not equal.
Sincerely,
